What is Authentic Movement Practice?
Are you craving a space for intimate somatic inquiry with your deepest self? Do you find value in holding and being held in compassionate witness with other women? You are welcome here.
Authentic Movement is a unique deeply somatic, presencing, and relational practice developed from Jungian and Depth Psychology. Here we allow ourselves to "be moved" by soma, psyche, and soul as one. In this practice we let go of the conceptual self, our patterned movement, performance and endeavor to contact our experiential impulse, image, sensation and affect as unfolding movement experience.
In Authentic Movement we explore the relational field as both mover and witness. The mover drops into practice while the witness provides a containing compassionate presence for the shared experience. This relationship becomes the ground for healing, insight and integration. We move first, and then speak from direct experience as witness and mover. We find language for our embodied experience that does not interpret, reflect or fix. We allow and trust our experience as emergent sacred intelligence moving through us.
Authentic Movement practice can support you in ~
🍃Grounding, nervous system nourishment and self care.
🍃Cultivating deep inner listening, trust in your intuition and embodied wisdom.
🍃Exploring shadow work, parts work, and archetypal emergence.
🍃Awareness and metabolization of boundaries, implicit patterns and emotional load.
🍃Having a space to be held in your unfolding - without agenda, fixing or interpretation.
Practice will begin with light somatic invitations during freeform dance to help us to shake off the day and settle into the space together. Authentic Movement practice as mover and witness will be held as our main inquiry and container. Sharing and closing together will be held in the last 10 minute of class. Participants are welcome to bring journals to write reflections in and anything else they need to feel well nourished in the dance space.
Practice will be held in Morro Bay at Goddess Temple Central Coast, previously Green Lotus - a lovely space with wood floors that comfortably holds up to 15.

Let us come with curiosity as we follow the body’s lead.
Let us learn to feel, sense and inhabit ourselves unconditionally.
More on the philosophy and practice…
Authentic Movement Practice is a movement based practice developed from Depth Psychology and the research and writings of Carl Jung. In Depth Psychology there is no separation between Psyche and Soma, mind, soul and body. Depth Psychology holds the perspective that wholeness of being is experienced through the integration of unconscious aspects of the Self into consciousness.
Through myth, archetype, dreams, image, movement and connection to the natural world, a deeper connection can be made with psyche and soul. A Depth Psychology approach invites the emergence of unconscious patterns, beliefs and disowned aspects of the Self that are ready to be witnessed and integrated into the body/being.
In Authentic Movement we move from a felt sense of connection with sensation, impulse, emotion, image. We allow the body to be moved by it’s innate intelligence rather than from thought, idea, performance, familiar movement patterns or deciding How to move. Rather we allow ourselves to Be moved moment by moment and stay connected to what feels correct and authentic in that movement. We don’t know what will happen next - but the body knows.
Part of Authentic Movement practice utilizes the containment and relational field of mover/movers and witness/witnesses. The witness hold a neutral loving space to witness the mover to be held. Both mover and witness experience the movers unfoldment. Neutral reflection is offered by both mover and witness to honor and complete the process together.

Come dance your beauty way. Beauty is more than visual aesthetic - Beauty is a FEELING, a Frequency, a Sensation, a Healing in and of itself. Beauty calms the nervous system, soothes and awakens the senses, opens the heart to receive, inspires sensory pleasure, and even stimulates the pineal gland.
The path of Beauty opens us to embodiment and heart awakening. Beauty is what happens when we transform our pain through the alchemy of the spiritual heart.
In this SomaDance exploration light somatic facilitation will invite us into exploring Beauty as embodied experience. Invitations to explore the alchemization of less savory feeling states of experience into opening and expression through beauty~way movement will be offered. Invitations to explore beauty~way where there is already abundance, coherence and love will be held as well.
This will be a spacious dive to tend to the Well of our Beingness, taking a break from our doing, and to gather as women with the intention of deeply resourcing our bodies, hearts, minds and spirits so that we may come back into our lives, work and relationships with greater resilience, fresh perspective and renewed creative energy.
We, Kari Stettler, Shelley Kilcoyne and Laura Michaels, have been enjoying weaving our hearts and minds, our experiences of Somatic Study, Healing, Ceremony, Nature Connection and Embodiment Inquiry, into this 3-day offering for the women (you!) in our lives and communities. We intend it to be a deep and gentle time to slow down, connect with self, nourish our bodies with nutritious foods, and be together in connective ways as women so effortlessly do. There will be time for deep rest on the land, periods of silence, movement inquiry, dream-weaving and ceremony.
This will be an intimate experience of around 25 women and we will stay together onsite in the spacious Hacienda house, where there are single, double and dorm style lodgings available. You can read more about the retreat and lodging options at www.werootwell.com.
